Statement of Faith

Who we are:

We believe in the eternally existing, triune God; man’s sinful nature and need for  redemption; and Jesus Christ’s atoning death and resurrection.  We believe in the inerrancy of the Bible and that it is the foundation upon which all education should be based (Romans 12:1-2, Joshua 1:8, 2 Timothy 3:16, Colossians 2:8, James 1:5, Deuteronomy 6:6-9).  No denomination or individual doctrine will be  promoted.                                                                                Adopted November 2003

To participate in a Central Iowa Christian Home Educators sponsored activity, you need not agree with these statements, but respect these beliefs and conduct yourself in speech and actions in a God-honoring manner at all activities.

What we do:

Central Iowa Christian Home Educators exists to encourage home schooling families to develop academic and spiritual excellence by:

v      Providing group activities;

v      Providing prayer intercession; and

v      Providing information and resources for current and prospective home school families.

General Participation Guidelines for CICHE Activities

  1. Make reservations by the requested deadline.  It is necessary for planning purposes.  Also, let the contact person know if you must cancel.
  2. Be on time!
  3. Dress appropriately.  Please, no dirty or torn clothes.  Yes, appearance does make a difference.
  4. Do not talk when someone else is speaking!  This includes parents.  This is not considered our group social time.
  5. Ask that the children wait until an appropriate time to ask questions, but please, ask questions!
  6. Please raise your hand when asking questions and wait to be called upon.
  7. If a child is acting inappropriately, he must leave the field trip area.  Please use discretion when bringing children who are younger.
  8. If a child is disruptive, he may be asked not to attend future field trips.

CICHE COOPERATIVE PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES

Coop is an opportunity for all CICHE member children to participate in monthly classroom learning opportunities. Classes are offered for age-specific groups, to maximize students’ learning potential. Because coop is offered BY member families, FOR member families, the following participation guidelines are in place:

1. All participating families are requested to provide a primary contribution to the group.

            A primary contribution includes:

            1. Offering to teach a class (mom, dad or high school student) *Preferred (see below)

2. Arranging for an outside teacher to come in to teach (retired school teacher, local community

“experts”, grandparent, etc.) *Preferred (see below)

3. Because not everyone is gifted for teaching, there are a limited number of coop committee, non-

teaching positions available; which qualify as a “primary contribution”.

4. First-year home schooling families and families with a baby under one year of age are not

required to provide a primary contribution.

2. All participating families are requested to provide a secondary contribution.

                A secondary contribution includes:

1. Teacher assistant: Assistants are teachers’ “helpers”. They are also expected to provide

supervision and occupy students during a class period, should the teacher have an unexpected

emergency which prevents him/her from teaching (illness, etc.).

            2. Cover a nursery shift.

3. All participating member families are expected to meet registration deadlines.

Those families, who are established members of CICHE, are required to meet all deadlines as communicated. This is out of respect to coop committee members who volunteer their time, in service to you, to organize coop.   Of course, new family members cannot be held to this standard because they would not have been made aware of any deadlines. Consideration may also be given for member family special circumstances (moves, family illness, etc.).

4. A parent must remain on the premises while their children participate in coop.

A parent or other responsible person is expected to be present to handle any disciplinary or emergency situations that may arise with their children.  Parents may arrange with extended family or a friend to cover for them if they are unable to stay at coop. In that case, the parent should notify their children’s teachers who that responsible party is.

These guidelines are not intended to hinder families from participating. The coop committee will work with any and all families who wish to participate, but are unsure how they can contribute. Our goal is to share the “load” and we are certain that all families have a contribution to offer. Please refer your questions or concerns to the coop committee chairperson.

*Preferred because more class offerings give our students a greater variety of classroom learning opportunities from which to choose.
